HRCP asks IGP to probe ‘torture of trader, employee by CIA’

LAHORE: The HRCP on Friday expressed concern over the report of an alleged custodial torture on a Lahore-based trader by Lahore CIA police. The commission said, the HRCP notes with concern that the CIA police initially took the trader’s employee into custody at their Nawankot police station and released him after extorting a large sum of money.

The CIA officials detained the trader when he filed a complaint against illegal action of the police, and subjected him to sexual abuse, torture and blackmail. The HRCP demanded the IGP investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. It also demanded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz introduce much-needed reforms in the police department to strengthen its internal accountability mechanisms and curb such incidents.
